Grief and the human-animal bond

Thank you for being courageous and vulnerable...

After watching, Herbs for Grief, we hope your grief is able to grow into praise when you further explore all the ways to process it.

Everyone has experienced loss. The loss of a pet and the grief experienced is something many people struggle with. It can often feel lonely going through the grieving process because as a society we do not talk about it. For some, there is a lack of support from family or friends who don't understand what you are going through, for others you may feel at a loss for how to work through the emotions associated with grief.

Dr. Alexia Tsakiris is a holistic veterinarian and expert in herbal medicine. After years of watching pet parents go through the loss of a pet, she herself lost her beloved Margarita. It was then that she realized that pet parents need support through the hospice process as well as after the loss of their pet. Together we will look at why we feel grief deeply after the loss of a pet, by exploring the human-animal bond and how this relationship is understood by some and felt by many.

Several herbs will be discussed in how they work to support you and your pets who have experienced loss. By working through the grieving process, it helps us to understand the variety of emotions that we feel and to recognize the normalcy of this process, as well as the importance of having a community to support you as well.
